Our existing 'Summer' concession policy does not do enough to recognise the energy needs of pensioners - especially aged pensioners - in Winter, where they are vulnerable to pneumonia and flu.

On the other hand - some are claiming the Libs' 'tough on law and order' and 'tougher sentencing' policies could cost $2 billion with construction and staffing of new prisons. (the rationale being cynically exagerrated claims re: violent crime)

Whatever the real figure is: What say Labor defuse moral panic on sentencing, while at the same time trumping the Libs on social justice re: energy concessions? What say Labor commit the funds Ballieu is promising re: new prisons to provide MORE generous energy concessions to concession card holders?

Again: I hope there are Vic Labor advisors and strategists reading this; ready to make the recommendation that Brumby match or trump the Libs on energy concessions...

With a rising cost of living this could be crucial for Labor...Tristan Ewinsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6920488656220463337.post-33255085158249746742010-11-24T01:41:10.192+11:002010-11-24T01:41:10.192+11:00As an old labor dog who's moved onto "gre...As an old labor dog who's moved onto "greener pastures" (if you excuse the pun), that headline is something Labor needs to mull over.

Roughly half the population are a bit left wing, and half the population are a bit right wing. At least in my estimation. Big cluster in the center, probably looks a bit like your bell shaped distribution statisticians like to draw.

But as it stands, nobody seems to be able to work out where labor sits on that curve, except perhaps "a bit to the right".

Well that leaves the entire base of the left side of the curve, you know the place labor once theoretically lived , abandoned and of course the Greens are going to move in there ,because at least you know where the greens stand.

Labor needs to quit this stupid "down with the greens" nonsense. The people Labor are dissing are their own god damn family, and the more labor do it, the more people get that sinking feeling and walk across to the fresher fields.

Making this a turf war means losing a game labor can't win. The greens left wing credentials are impeccable, labor still has freaking children in desert camps for the grand crime of being the offspring of a seeker of asylum.

Can't any of the number crunchers see whats going on?

The clock is ticking for labor. It actually has a historic chance of cashing in on a demographic that could put the liberals in the trash heap of history, but instead its playing stupid poll-driven labor right games that have so far came within a hair width of what could of been the most humiliating defeat in labors history.

Wake the F*** up labor.Shayne Onoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6920488656220463337.post-79554006262842229542010-11-22T16:07:30.697+11:002010-11-22T16:07:30.697+11:00On the ground one of the strengths of Labor has be...On the ground one of the strengths of Labor has been to announce broad policy commitments and then express that as a local project or initiative. The Greens in inner Melbourne run like Upper House members. Broad policy commitments with no local component. I think they lack a certain localism to their campaigning. So they promise the Doncaster Rail line but not an upgrade to a bike path or $1 billion for new schools but nothing is said about the immediate needs of a local primary school.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6920488656220463337.post-58790751102609087062010-11-21T21:48:33.628+11:002010-11-21T21:48:33.628+11:00Taxing the rich to pay for reforms seems like an p...Taxing the rich to pay for reforms seems like an position the Greens are arguing for and Labor both Federally and at a state level oppose.

It is not just spending proposals that the Greens beat labor on - their whole agenda ta a stae and federal level seems more progressive - health, education, the environment, refugees, aborigines, workers' rights etc.En Passant with John Passanthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07995648116853299140noreply@blogger.com
